Obtain planning permission

With the outline issued, BuildCo. obtains the planning permission from the Development and Planning Corporation.

Request and receive inspection of building setout with approved setbacks
Agency: Development and Planning Corporation (D & PC)
According to the Building Code, nine inspections should be conducted during the construction process. Each inspection occurs within 48 hours of being requested by the contractor for review. However, only three occur in practice. There are no fees for the inspections.

Request and receive inspection of substructure (foundation)

BuildCo. receives an inspection that will review the foundations.
Time and cost: 3 days, no charge
Request and receive inspection of framing for roof
Agency: Development and Planning Corporation (D & PC)
BuildCo. receives an inspection that will review the structures for the completion of roof.
Time and cost: 3 days, no charge
Request water and sewage connection
Agency: Dominica Water and Sewage Company (DOWASCO)
Once the inspections during construction are done, BuildCo. can request the water and sewage services to the utility company.
Time and cost: 1 day, no charge
Receive water and sewage inspection
Agency: Dominica Water and Sewage Company (DOWASCO)
After the request is made, BuildCo. receives the inspection for both services.
Time and cost: 1 day, no charge
Obtain water and sewage connection

Once both inspections are cleared, BuildCo. receive both services.
Time and cost: 14 days, XCD 240
Receive final inspection
Agency: Physical Planning Division
With all these installation in place, BuildCo. is apt to receive a final inspection by the Physical Planning Division.
Time and cost: 1 day, no charge
Obtain certificate of occupancy
Agency: Physical Planning Division
Finally, BuildCo. obtains the certificate of occupancy.
