EVgo & Meijer expand their partnership to bring hundreds of fast-charging stalls to Midwest stores, supporting sustainability and EV adoption.
EVgo Inc., one of the largest public fast-charging networks in the US, has announced a significant expansion of its partnership with Midwest grocery retailer Meijer. The collaboration aims to bring up to 480 new fast-charging stalls to Meijer locations across Michigan, Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky, reinforcing both companies’ commitment to sustainability and EV adoption.
A growing network for EV drivers
EVgo, a leader in EV charging solutions, operates more than 1,000 fast-charging locations across 40 states. It caters to individual drivers, rideshare operators and commercial fleets. Its innovative tools, such as EVgo Optima™, EVgo Rewards™ and Autocharge+, provide a seamless charging experience for users.
Meijer, known for its one-stop shopping model, has long been a sustainability advocate. The retailer currently offers EV charging at more than 35% of its locations, with plans to grow significantly through the partnership.
To date, 24 fast-charging stalls have been installed at six Meijer stores in Michigan and Ohio. The next phase will see 30 new stations operational by 2026, with another 30 stations planned by the end of 2027.
Charging where customers shop
Dennis Kish, President of EVgo, stated, “Fast charging should be an effortless part of drivers’ daily routines and nothing is more routine than a trip to the grocery store.”
By expanding its footprint in the Midwest, EVgo is addressing the growing demand for EV infrastructure in the region. With more fast charging options at Meijer stores, drivers will have convenient access to reliable charging while shopping, making incorporating EV charging into everyday life easier.
Meijer has a longstanding commitment to reducing its carbon footprint. In 2024, the retailer achieved a 50% reduction in carbon emissions, surpassing its goal one year ahead of schedule. The EPA’s GreenChill Partnership has recognised its efforts, highlighting initiatives in energy efficiency and renewable energy.
Erik Petrovskis, Meijer’s Director of Environmental Compliance and Sustainability, stated, “Access to electric vehicle charging is an essential pillar of our broader sustainability goals. Partnering with EVgo allows us to connect more customers with charging resources, minimising emissions and promoting a sustainable future.”
Enhancing EV adoption across the Midwest
The Midwest has emerged as a critical market for EV growth and this partnership is poised to make a substantial impact. EVgo’s advanced charging solutions and Meijer’s extensive retail network create a synergy that benefits EV drivers and supports environmental stewardship.
In addition to serving retail customers, the partnership aligns with EVgo’s national strategy to build a customer-focused, coast-to-coast EV charging network. The company recently secured a US$1.05bn conditional loan guarantee from the Department of Energy, supporting its infrastructure expansion plans.
With shared values of sustainability and innovation, EVgo and Meijer are paving the way for a greener Midwest. As more drivers transition to EVs, the expanded availability of fast-charging infrastructure will play a key role in ensuring convenience and reliability.
By 2027, the partnership will provide access to hundreds of new charging stalls across six states, reaffirming both companies’ commitment to environmental responsibility and customer satisfaction.
“EVgo’s partnership with Meijer shows our companies’ shared commitment to delivering an elevated charging experience for EV drivers living or travelling throughout the Midwest,” Dennis emphasised.
The collaboration highlights the critical intersection of retail convenience and EV innovation, making the future of transportation more accessible, sustainable and practical for everyone.
